Eulogy: Love and Long Remember Desdemona

I might want to begin by expressing gratitude toward Desdemona’s family who have ventured out from Venice to be here today, and to all her reliable companions here in Cyprus for your resolute help during this troublesome time. A large number of you might be annoyed by my appearance here today, yet to that I will say, I was blinded by my extraordinary love for Desdemona and that adoration is as solid now as it was the day I wedded her. We will all long recollect Desdemona as a liberal and committed spouse and companion. She had an untainted soul that could sparkle light into the darkest day. As Desdemona’s spouse I cherished and needed to give her the amount she intended to me, and in that I fizzled. She was a huge individual to us all here, alongside such a significant number of others. She was such a characteristic part in every one of our lives that it will be some time before she is ever overlooked. As her better half, we shared a relationship which was from the beginning one of dependability and trust.. As a youthful and flawlessly excellent lady she was additionally blamed for some things that I currently come to accept false. Desdemona was conceived on 22 April 1603 in Venice to congressperson, Brabantio, with whom she is presently rejoined. She was an unassuming lady who was persevering, dedicated and had an extremely solid confidence in God. Today we sadly recollect the innocent Desdemona and the cruel passing she endured, at my hands. As we are disheartened by Desdemona’s passing it is hard for us to consider proceeding with existence without her. Today we to think about my dear Desdemona’s life and the ethics, accomplishments and characteristics she gave us step by step. She was respected by the two people for her confiding in nature, her insight, faithfulness to both myself and her dad. Desdemona was one to consistently observe the positive qualities in others and bolster them regardless. In the same way as other here today she was a lady, however through no deficiency of her own; she usually got uncalled for treatment. I rewarded her unreasonably a way no individual ought to be dealt with I ought to have believed her as she would confide in me. A companion would disclose to me how ladies are manipulative and were enchantresses. Anyway Desdemona was the direct inverse She was unadulterated, and kind hearted. Desdemona was dedicated and really accommodating to her dad. She just defied him once in her life a that was the point at which she said I do to me. Furthermore, her better half as long as she lived. At the point when she was approaching an amazing finish, I am disheartened to state that she was blamed for some things, things which I ought to have known not to be valid. Such a peaceful and unassuming individual, the sweet Desdemona merited much preferable treatment over this and this is the place I bombed her. She never appeared to stop in astonishing me, despite the fact that she had experienced so much she despite everything kept up an easy-going and inspirational disposition towards life. Desdemona has returned home presently, guided by her confidence and by the light of those whom she has cherished and lost. She will be everlastingly associated with her sort and adoring soul. As Desdemona leaves us grieved with her passing, we can be grateful for the recollections she has left in our souls. My expectation is that she excuses the job I needed to play in her death, as a man blinded by trust I listened when I ought to have felt with my heart, I accepted the expressions of another when I generally knew reality inside myself. I didn't comprehend the methods of ladies I was fairly acclimated uniquely to the front line and the universe of men. I should suffer existence without her in view of my mix-ups and my visual impairment. God Bless Desdemona and may she rest in ceaseless harmony.

Disregarding this, esteem drove retailers, for example, TK Maxx, ASDA (George range) and Tesco beat the remainder of the market, proceeding to be the quickest developing channel and creating  £2 billion in garments deals. The most recent year and a half have seen a solid recuperation at M&S, and BHS - that depicts itself as pr emium worth is likewise an a lot more grounded player. In this manner, there is more and better decision for shoppers. Notwithstanding, while 2001 and 2002 were light a very long time for retail and for attire, 2003 is seeing a noteworthy log jam. It is much quantifiably harder to convince purchasers to spend. A key factor is that worth apparel retailers currently realize that they can't prevail with low costs alone. Shoppers expect a wonderful situation and standard quality product regardless of whether they are paying practically nothing. So they have needed to make exceptionally huge interests in their store bequests - when many are growing quickly as well. Likewise, this space and item development has been testing. Many have discovered that their foundation, frameworks, IT and coordinations have recently not been ready and this has influenced their business execution. In 2004, the serious condition in the UK retail advertise has encountered a sensational re-shape. This re-shape has been driven by the procurement of the Safeway general store chain by Morrisons, which has made the nation's fourth-greatest retailer and has allowed Morrisons to represent a genuine danger to Sainsbury's, in the battle for third spot behind the UK's greatest retailers, Tesco and Asda. As per new research examining the Retailing business in the UK by Euromonitor International, the move towards more noteworthy combination keep on affecting the UK retail industry throughout the following five years. Obviously, these stores are speaking to UK customers, on account of their helpful areas and broadened opening times. Hypermarket retailers need to ensure they don't pass up this developing territory of the UK showcase. New Audiobooks for April

New Audiobooks for April This list first appeared in the Audiobooks Newsletter. Sign-up for the Audiobooks Newsletter  here. Happy April, Audiophiles! A new month means new audiobooks for your listening pleasure! There are tons to get to, so let’s dive right in. As always, I’ve put the publisher descriptions in quotes. The Recovering written and read by Leslie Jamison; release date: 04-03-18 I’m halfway through this audiobook and thus far it’s excellent. Granted, this is a pretty easy sell for me: Leslie Jamison is a female writer who got sober in her 20s. I’m all those things too, but instead of being Leslie Jamison, I’m just a Leslie Jamison fan. The Recovering is part memoir, part meditation on writers, creativity, and booze. As someone who used to wake up and crack open a bottle of vodka before sitting down at my desk (because Hemingway?) before writing a bunch of gibberish and passing out…well, yes, this book is right up my alley. But if you’re a fan of Jamison (which, if you’ve read her, is pretty hard not to be), you can’t go wrong with this title. Meaty written and read by Samantha Irby; release date: 04-03-18 I loooove Sam Irby. My sister was kind enough to gift me Irbys first collection of essays (Meaty) years ago and I got hooked on both the book and her blog (bitches gotta eat). She topped many a “best of” list in 2017 with her collection of essays, We Are Never Meeting in Real Life.  Now she’s updated and expanded her first collection of essays, and please trust me when I say if you liked WANMIRL, you will NOT be disappointed with Meaty. Failing Up: How to Take Risks, Aim Higher, and Never Stop Learning written and read by Leslie Odom Jr; release date: 04-10-18 Leslie Odom Jr. shot to fame in 2015 as Aaron Burr in the original Broadway Cast of Hamilton. This short audiobook (running time three hours thirty-seven minutes) “asks the questions that will help you unlock your true potential and achieve your goals even when they seem impossible. What work did you put in today that will help you improve tomorrow? How do you surround yourself with people who will care about your dreams as much as you do? How do you know when to play it safe and when to risk it all for something bigger and better?” If you’re looking for inspiration and insight from a super talented guy, this is a safe bet. A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies, and Leadership written and read by James Comey Who is James Comey? Is he the man who cost Hillary Clinton the election? Is he the man whose firing might be the catalyst for Trump’s impeachment? Or is he just a guy who tweets pictures of waterfalls alongside Martin Luther King Jr. quotes? Lordy, who knows?! Listen to the audiobook, narrated by the man himself, and find out. The Home for Unwanted Girls by Joanna Goodman; narrated by Saskia Maarleveld; release date: 04-17-18 “‘Philomena’ meets ‘The Orphan Train’ in this suspenseful, provocative novel filled with love, secrets, and deceit the story of a young unwed mother who is forcibly separated from her daughter at birth and the lengths to which they go to find each other.” War on Peace: The End of Diplomacy and the Decline of American Influence written and read by Ronan Farrow; release date: 04-24-18 Ronan Farrow is the dogged reporter behind the New Yorker expose of Harvey Weinstein. Before he was a reporter, however, he was a diplomat. His experiences in this role are the core of this book. “In an astonishing account ranging from Washington, DC, to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and North Korea in the years since 9/11, Farrow illuminates one of the most consequential and poorly understood changes in American historyFarrows narrative is richly informed by interviews with whistle-blowers, policymakers, and a warlord, from Henry Kissinger to Hillary Clinton. Diplomacy, Farrow argues, has declined after decades of political cowardice, short-sightedness, and outright maliceâ€"but it may just offer America a way out of a world at war.” You Think It, Ill Say It: Stories by Curtis Sittenfeld; narrated by Emily Rankin and Mark Deacon; release date: 04-24-18 The author of Prep, American Wife, and Eligible releases her first collection of short stories later this month. In it, she “upends assumptions about class, relationships, and gender roles in a nation that feels both adrift and viscerally divided. In ‘The World Has Many Butterflies’, married acquaintances play a strangely intimate game with devastating consequences. In ‘Vox Clamantis in Deserto’, a shy Ivy League student learns the truth about a classmates seemingly enviable life.” Sittenfeld at her best reminds me of some of my favorite short story writers (Lorrie Moore, Robin Black) and I’m excited to see if that plays out in this collection. OK, this one isn’t from April, it was released last month but somehow I missed it and I must atone for my grievous mistake. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents a Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo  by Marlon Bundo, Jill Twiss; narrated by Jim Parsons, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, John Lithgow, Jack McBrayer, RuPaul; release date: 03-18-18 The book that started out as a spoof of the book Vice President Pence’s wife wrote (about a day in the life of the VP, from the perspective of his bunny Marlon Bundo) became an overnight bestseller. “With a message of tolerance and advocacy, this charming childrens book explores issues of same-sex marriage and democracy. Beautifully performed by an all-star cast, featuring Jim Parsons, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jeff Garlin, Ellie Kemper, John Lithgow, Jack McBrayer, and RuPaul, this sweet and funny story is dedicated to every bunny who has ever felt different.” Did you listen to anything last month that you loved? Power and Politics In 1984 - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 850 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/04/10 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: 1984 Essay Did you like this example? George Orwells 1984 is a novel of social science fiction that was written in 1949. Notably, the book talks of a totalitarian super state known as Oceania that will come to control the world. The author describes Oceania as a state that was controlled by an arrogant government that concentrated more on manipulating the way of life of the citizens, affecting the peoples lives adversely. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Power and Politics In 1984" essay for you Create order Additionally, Orwell states that the people in Oceania were strictly governed by influential leaders, who expected the citizens to submit to their authority completely. The essay will explore the theme of power and politic more profoundly and analyze how elements of the totalitarian system he writes against manifest in our world today. It is evident that the state described in the novel has some striking similarities to our current government. The way of life the government of Oceania had adopted is not too far off to the world we live on a daily basis. For instance, the author shows how deteriorated the standard of living of the people in Oceania was, yet their dictatorship government made the people to believe that their living standard was better than others and to ensure that they received to contradicting information the government blocked information from other regions. The author shows how citizens were brainwashed into believing in a reality that never existed, despite that anyone who tried to oppose the government received harsh punishment and in some instances, one was sentenced to death. Additionally, people were imprisoned for giving their opinions. Similarly, in todays world, the government is in control of everyone, for instance, spying is out of control, from Facebook to Net Neutrality. Additionally, NSA spying is depriving citizens the privacy to emails, text messages and phone calls (NPR Choice Page). Also, free speech is under attack. A government that is entirely in control of not providing citizens the freedom to privacy is similar to a government that brainwashes its citizen to only accessing what the government wants. Additionally, the spying relates to the author consistently used a slogan that big brother is watching you. In our world today people get charged for their opinions leaving people with fear to oppose the government. Additionally, people are being muzzled, and the conservative information is suppressed, this is a clear indication of the kind of totalitarian system citizens are undergoing. Concerns about having a government that controls the media to curb the flow of information have been witnessed in our world today which is similar to what Orwells talks about in his book. A reporter, Politico, reports about the possibility of the White House trying to put a stamp on the Voice of America, the station that pushes democratic ideals across the world (Kakutani). Notably, this is a clear indication that the people are being suppressed from information to blind their judgment and only receive what the government sees as appealing. His novel Nineteen Eighty-Four presents a world that where the government uses fear to control individuals who dont conform to the usual political orthodox. The authors statement can be related to what is happening where the government is using the war and defeating of an enemy as a reason for the increased surveillance. In general, the way is used as an excuse to give the government a way to look into peoples lives. Orwell indicated talked of the value of confusion that was brought about by the government. Orwell would not be surprised by the confusing state of affairs in the government (McCrum).Notably, this confusion is brought about by the denials, and the counter denials passed to the citizens. The government is continuously denying that they are spying on citizens and then going ahead to convince people the only reason its conducted is due to the terrorist attacks. In the novel, Orwell calls some people as the proles citizens who help the state to keep an eye on people to be able to be in control. That kind of totalitarian system can be seen clearly in todays world, especially with the advent of smartphones and the widespread of surveillance cameras, makes peoples movement or conversations in the public sphere not to be considered as private. The United States current state of war is similar to the state in 1984. Where in Oceania the people were made to believe they were always at war and they were the victims though at times they were the ones causing war. The party members were the only ones who knew what was happening. Similarly, citizens of the US have become oblivious to actual issues, where most times people are not aware who they are fighting with and why (McCrum). People are currently living in a world where they dont know what peace is much like the slogan war is peace. The novel offers a thought-provoking learning experience. People can see the similarities between Oceania and the current state of affairs. The book makes it clear how the government is hypocritical but with a twist to make citizens believe their motive. It is a clear basis for learning and building people to be better leaders.

Essay Affecting The American Dream - 1061 Words

Affecting the â€Å"American Dream† America still to this day holds on to the idea of the â€Å"American Dream†. This is rather surprising in today’s society and the ups and downs that the nation is facing. The dream in the past was more about freedom and equality. Instead of the unified nation, America has been known for in the past, a shift has started creating an inconsistency in who can realize the dream. The myth of the â€Å"American Dream† has been hugely affected by increased materialism, the gap in economic status, and the fantasy of â€Å"rags to riches† idea. Influence of Old and New Testament on The Kingdom of Gods

Question: How did the od testament influence the kingdom of god during the second tempe? Answer: Introduction The Holy Bible is divided into the Old Testament and the New Testament. Both of these holy books contain descriptions and literature about the Kingdom of God. It is to be noted that the New Testament is based on the messages provided in the Old Testament. Therefore, one needs to study both of them thoroughly in order to understand the concept of the Kingdom of God. A thorough interpretation of the Kingdom of God will show that, the planning which the Lord had for his kingdom dates back many centuries from the time of creation during the primitive times till the creation during the recent times (Tate, 2013). The prediction contained in the Old Testament shows the building up of a new kingdom on earth which will come into existence some day with the help of Jesus Christ. There Christ is referred to as the second Adam. It is Him who is entrusted with the duty to accomplish all the agreements of the sacred Scriptures (Pring, 2015). History of Gods own Kingdom All of us on this beautiful earth live each day of our lives in fear and worries. But, the world is so wonderful that we should spend our lives happily and with no reason to be afraid of. We are today immensely blessed with all the scientific advancements in technology. Today we fly across from one country to another in a matter of hours, owing to the unprecedented development in science and technology (Tuckett, 2014). We have automobiles connecting cities in matter of hours. Today electrical power has replaced the candles of the olden days. In this technological age of revelation, we are still not actually happy and contended from deep within. There are evils in the society which are chasing us day in and day out. We cannot escape from them. They are slowly engulfing our soul and our very own existence (Pfoh, 2013). The ancient scholars dreamt of a perfect society, in which there will be no hatred and no ill feelings between the human beings. The society would be based on pure and love and trust. But, this was not possible in reality as men were not able to rid themselves of greed and lust. Every one of them were looking up towards the skies and praying hard for someone to listen to their woes. They were desperately waiting for a savior to come down on earth and save the human kind from destruction. It was time for the arrival of Jesus, the savior of mankind. He was considered to be Gods own son. He was the guiding star for the people. The various preaching of Jesus showed people how to arrive at the Kingdom of God. (Myers, 2012). They were made to believe that good time had come and it was their turn to receive their share of happiness. But, it would not come free. Human beings would have to undergo an inner change of being and drain out all the negative vibes that used to clog his mind through ages. The famous words from Jesus Christ can never be forgotten by us. It says Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Just before breathing his last, Christ assured his disciples that he would share with them the joy and the association of the Kingdom of God. Jesus promised his beloved followers that he would return on this earth one day to bring back the lost glory of the earth once again (Malan, 2014). It is mention worthy, that the Christian Churches have different opinions and understanding of the Kingdom of God. We do not have any answer as to when this Kingdom of God will actually come into being. Many scholars like Adolf von Harnack, described the Kingdom as being more subjective (Ure, 2015). He tried to interpret it in terms of spirit of the human beings and their connection to God. Scholars like him believed that the Kingdom of God was the inner power of the human soul. Another interpretation thought of it as having an absolute value or character, which has made its journey towards time and space in the very personality of Jesus (Macaskill, 2014). A few of the other scholars believed that the message of Kingdom of God brought with it an apocalyptic angle to the earth. It would happen with the help of a supernatural activity of the Almighty. It was time for history to get erased and beginning of a new era. The Kingdom was totally a subject matter of the future and it was one which was supernaturally motivated. Some other sections of the scholars believe that the Kingdom is nothing but the Church itself. They believed that it was the Church which was meant to spread the sacred Gospel all over the world. In this way, the Kingdom of God was also spreading its wings all over the globe (Louy, 2014). The impact of Old Testament on the New Testament The Bible is a consolidated book of the Christians. However, there are some differences between the two. They might be treated as complementing each other. The Old Testament can be termed as the very foundation of the holy Bible. The New Testament builds itself on that foundation but has some additional messages in it. The Old Testament lays down the several principles which are found in the New Testament in more illustrated manner. The several divinations contained in the Old Testament are given form in the New. The Old Testament discusses about the several aspects of the human race in general while the New Testament talks about a person as an individual. What the Old Testament depicts can be described the anger of God against the sinners, whereas the New Testament talks about how graceful and forgiving God can be towards those people who commit sins (Hjelm, 2013). The several prophecies mentioned in the Old Testament which talked about the appearance of Jesus on this earth in details, lacked a bit of clarity which was made clear in the New Testament. We can discuss about the incident where prophet Isaiah talked about the demise of the Messiah. He also talked about the making of the Kingdom of the Messiah. But there was no concrete idea about the fact that there was the gap of thousands of years in between the suffering and the making of the Kingdom. In the New Testament, we come to know about the fact that the Messiah or savoir would have dual appearances on this earth. In one of them He would suffer and expire, whereas in the other, He would create His Kingdom of God, where there would be peace, love and harmony and no evil would be present to harm the inner being of the human race (Emerson, 2014). The several principles, which came into existence in the Old Testament, were made all the more clear and detailed in the New Testament. We come to know from the Book of Hebrews, where Jesus was considered to be the real High Priest and in what ways one of His sacrifices replaced the others He made, which were nothing but the anticipations of the things which would occur in future. Like, the Passover Lamb in the Old Testament gave rise to the Lamb of God according to the New Testament. It might be said that the Old Testament created the laws. The clarifications of such laws were made in the New Testament which showed the necessity of deliverance and did not ever intend to be the ways to salvation (Hjelm, 2013). In the Old Testament we come across the incident where Adam lost his paradise. The New Testament tells the story about how the second Adam, in the form of Jesus, was able to get back the lost paradise. According to the Old Testament, a sinful activity would have separated man from God. However, in the New Testament we come across the several ways in which that broken relationship with God could be mended. It was predicted about the life of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament the life of Jesus was stored in the Gospel and the Epistles discuss about his life and how the common man should follow what He had preached and everything good that He did (Emerson, 2014). In short, it might be said that the Old Testament built the very foundation for the savior or The Messiah to arrive on this earth in order to sacrifice himself for the various sinful acts that the people had committed. The New Testament describes the priesthood of Christ and then shows us his various doings and how the common man should comprehend it and try to follow him (Wyatt, 2014). The motive of both the Testaments is to disclose the ever so holy, compassionate and virtuous God who would condemn the sinful acts of the humans, but also gives the sinners a chance to change them through lamenting and sacrifices. Both the Testaments actually depict the fact that God is ever present around us and how we can come close to him through extreme trust, loyalty and honesty (Dietrich, 2014). The influence on the Kingdom of God The Kingdom of God was the one which was ruled by Jesus. The foundation of such a kingdom laid on the notion that a sacred God lived among sacred people in a sacred land. The above factor nearly renders it impossible to revive Israel in Palestine in 1948, which would have fulfilled the predictions of the Old Testament in relation to the land which Israel was inheriting. The Holy Bible contained so many prophecies which could not fail. If Arab countries were successful in pushing away Israel towards the sea and thereby put an end to their regime on the land as it was promised to the descendants of Abraham (Chapman, 2014). But God also promised to return Israel its lost glory as per the sacred Scriptures. They would have fond a safe refuge in Jesus. They would be converted into Christianity and their soul and spirits would be cleaned. They would have to follow what Jesus orders them to do. However, modern Israel does not have the following characteristics. As per, the Old Testament, the Kingdom of the Messiah would be that of monarchy. Jesus was to be considered as at the apex of the Government (Billings, 2014). He would be the supreme leader who would take care of all the divinations. It was promised by Jesus, that his followers would hold prominent roles in his kingdom. This is a real proof of the political significance that the Kingdom had. The structure was nicely designed to form a perfect political Government. The people with good heart, who wanted to emulate the learning preached by Jesus would surely have place in his kingdom. The hierarchy could be described in a form which can be best described by a pyramid. Thus it is seen that Christs Kingdom of God was influenced both geographically and politically. Gradually, the Jews and others were being influenced by the preaching of Jesus. His aura began to permeate to the different layers of the society and culture. The distressed people belonging to other religions were also being m otivated and inspired by the preaching of Jesus (Anderson, 2012). Fig.1: It depicts the hierarchy of the Messiah Government under Jesus (Source: biblebelievers.org.au, 2015) Conclusions Both the Old and New Testaments give ample importance to the ushering in of the Kingdom of Gods. The planning for this Kingdom was being developed by the Lord since time unfathomable. But the Almighty promised that the Kingdom will be completely built according to His plans one day. It would be the dream country for every human on earth. He had made only one plan for the set up of the Kingdom. There was no alternative plan developed by Him. Jesus said that if the common man did not understand the essence of the Kingdom as mentioned in the Bible and believe that one day such a Kingdom of dreams could be built, then the Lords prayers would go unanswered and there would be malice for the entire human race. We, the human race, are the descendants of the first Adam. Hence it is not possible for us to establish this Kingdom. So, it was Jesus who could have set up such a Kingdom with exemplary leadership and inspiration. References Anderson, J. (2012). A Couple of Notes About Couple

A Couple of Notes About Couple A Couple of Notes About â€Å"Couple† A Couple of Notes About â€Å"Couple† By Mark Nichol Couple, from the Latin word copula, meaning â€Å"bond† (yes, the term is also the origin of copulate, which is synonymous with a sense of the verb couple), has some relationship issues, so careful writers should be aware of the word’s reputation and note its proper formal usage. Couple, as a collective noun, can be associated with a singular verb or a plural one, depending on context. But unlike other words in that class, it’s more likely to use a plural verb: â€Å"The couple is celebrating its fiftieth wedding anniversary† is just awkward, because the impersonal pronoun implies that the enduring union does not involve human beings. But â€Å"The couple are celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary† strikes many readers, even those who, like me, advocate the singular they, as clumsy. So, refer to the couple as â€Å"the two† or even â€Å"they.† Employing couple as an adjective (â€Å"Can I borrow a couple dollars?†) is common in speech but not appropriate in writing; the proper form is to treat the word as a noun followed by the preposition of preceding another noun (â€Å"Can I borrow a couple of dollars?†) When quoting a speaker in writing, silent correction interpolating of in the record of a person’s idiomatic speech without brackets or similarly calling attention to the change is advisable. An exception to the â€Å"couple of dollars† preference is when the noun is a numerical reference (â€Å"I bet a couple of hundred dollars on the game†); though this is the preferred form, omission of of in this usage is still common and not considered incorrect. However, of should remain absent from such statements as â€Å"I’ll buy a couple more batteries.† The noun couple is also used informally to refer to more than two people. The verb form lags in generally referring to two people or things, as in connecting of train cars, though this action may repeat sequentially. The form coupling can be a verb, an adjective, and a noun. Note, too, that â€Å"coupled with† takes a singular verb: â€Å"That incident, coupled with his behavior yesterday, is a clear sign of his instability.† Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Environmental Management Systems Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

Environmental Management Systems - Essay Example To understand its ramifications a company has to systematically consider all the factors driving the complex relationships between its business model and the environment and how it affects the company's competitiveness and the balance sheet. Effective environmental policies and programmes need to be worked out and put in place. Environment Management System (EMS) is an operational tool for managing these impacts on an organisation's activities on the environment (Australia 2007)1. It provides a platform for a structured approach to planning and implementing environment protection measures. An EMS integrates environmental management into the company's daily operations, long-term planning, quality control systems and finally end up in the Annual Report. Today computers have pervaded and revolutionised all sorts of office work. Paper and white-collar offices are becoming things of the past and have been replaced with network infrastructures and functionality has shifted to the Internet, automation and e-business solutions. Computers bring efficiency and allow reduction in staff and office space at the same time copiously enhances volumetric capacity of data storage and simplifies retrieval of information. Clearly, this transformation has environmental and social benefits such as reduced consumption of paper has revitalized forest resources. Video conferencing has reduced travel, saving both money and time. All such repositioning forms part of EMS. An effective EMS can assist an organisation to: Minimise environmental liabilities and demonstrate good corporate practices and ethics. Maximize efficiency in utilising resources and reduce waste. Inculcate environmental concern among its employees to gain a better understanding of the environmental impacts of the work they are involved in. Stay on course with efficient operations to achieve corporate motive of increasing profits without compromising environmental concerns. Organisations can use EMS to ensure that their performance is within regulatory requirements, and prepare ahead of more stringent regulations that might be necessitated in the future. Case Studies It will be appropriate to study implementation of some successful EMS by big and small organisations. In some case studies analysed below we find how some corporate giants and local government bodies have effectively introduced EMS standards and are successfully evolving them. We also see how brutalities on nature by some big players are brought to justice through community movements and without management commitment EMS is not always a win-win situation. Konica Minolta Model Konica Minolta, the Japanese multinational giant involved in imaging and office solutions business, is successfully implementing environment friendly policies in their large network of establishments around the world (Report, 2005 p.18) 2. Some of the measures they have beneficially introduced are: By minimising product size and weight the company not only conserved in-put resources but also scaled down requirement of transport. They further improved upon it with design cameras and digital multi functional devices and came out with new greener models

Since most people prefer to be involved in decisions concerning their Essay

Since most people prefer to be involved in decisions concerning their jobs, a participative style of leadership will always be m - Essay Example Directive leadership is often more autocratic whilst participative leadership deals more with consensus and direct stakeholder involvement in decision-making processes. In the organisational environment, some cultures and individual employee profiles will require a more directive leadership style in order to ensure compliance and goal-attainment. In a more decentralised organisation, more participative leadership is usually the method of leadership that will attain the most positive performance results. It has been said, however, that since the majority of workers want to be involved in organisational decision-making, then the participative style of leadership will be more effective than directive style. Evidence, however, somewhat refutes this notion, suggesting that both styles have practically equal probability of being effective so long as they are utilised properly and in a suitable organisational environment. Both styles are highly dependent on organisational culture, employee attitude and motivational capacity and organisational structure in order to achieve effective leadership outcomes. Participative versus directive leadership styles Participative leadership involves processes and procedures that tend to open communication channels with employees to gain their input in decision-making (Mullins 2005). The four stages of participative leadership are gaining consensus, consulting with important internal stakeholder, delegating responsibilities, and active involvement by key organisational actors (Mullins 2005). Thus, participative leadership is closely related to transformational leadership style, a style in which the leader acts as a teacher, mentor, and also opens lines of communications with employees where vision and mission are continuously reiterated (Fairholm 2009). Managers using participative style often will use charismatic, psycho-socially-based principles of leadership to gain long-term commitment and dedicated followership. Directive leaders hip is more arbitrary, focusing less on relationship development with employees and more on establishing order through controls or the development of transactional philosophy. Transactional leadership is establishing rewards based strictly on performance where low-performance reprimands are established for failing to meet organisational objectives or project goals. Directive style of leadership establishes specific job role responsibilities and then motivating performance of employees through routine evaluations and serving as a figure in the environment to ensure that compliance to procedure and goals is being accomplished by individuals or teams. Having defined both leadership styles and their differences, both can be properly explored to determine their potential success ratios when utilised in different organisational environments and cultures. In order to understand fully the style of leadership that will be most effective, it is necessary to examine existing research findings on participative versus directive leadership. Gill, Flaschner and Shachar (2006) identified that participative leadership style has a direct relationship with improved employee dedication, job satisfaction and reduced job burnout. Why is this necessarily? Participative lea

Safety with Armed Guards Patrolling School

Safety with Armed Guards Patrolling School Introduction: There is lots of schools that do not have as much security to protect students and teachers from violence.Having guards on school campus do help but what if the school was on a lockdown because of a shooting on campus. What is the guard going to do? Go up to him like nothing? No. What we need are armed guards. Armed guards will be able to stop the shooting and save peoples lives. Prevention and mitigation. Graves has used U.S. Justice Department grants for classroom door locks that can be secured from inside, plus video cameras and electronic locks for outer entrances. There are a lot of wonderful fire prevention approaches, Graves notes. Wouldnt it be great if we could have the same consideration given to other kinds of threats? Preparedness. Because 95 percent of emergency situations requiring lockdowns happen outside of school buildings, Lincoln County schools have two kinds of lockdown. A partial lockdown occurs when you bring everybody inside and instruction continues. Does your school have a plan for getting students back indoors quickly? Graves asks. We call it reverse evacuation. And you have to announce it because there are almost always some kids outside. A complete lockdown is what happened in Newtown, with school employees working quickly to make sure children were tucked out of sight. Response. During spring break, Lincoln County schools invite police officers onto each school campus for active shooter training, during which they learn the layouts of buildings and practice stopping an assault. Its a useful exercise that, luckily for Lincoln County, has never been tested. Recovery. During this period, the entire school community steps in to provide support. Graves experienced this phase firsthand when she was invited to Newtown after the tragedy there. She visited memorials, hugged people, cried with them and listened as one local man told her that even the shooter was one of ours and we failed him. Schools are still by far the safest places in America. But the events in Newtown have swayed public opinion in ways that earlier shootings did not, and the AFT stands with President Obama, who said in his second inaugural address that our journey is not complete until all our children, from the streets of Detroit to the hills of Appalachia to the quiet lanes of Newtown, know that they are cared for, and cherished, and always safe from harm. Knowing that our schools will never be safe as long as it remains easy for criminals or the mentally ill to acquire guns. AFT president Randi Weingarten, at the White House in January, commended President Obama and Vice President Biden for their proposals to reduce gun violence and promote safety, including: Banning sales of large ammunition clips; Expanding background checks and cracking down on those who lie on background check Stopping illegal gun trafficking; Banning assault weapons; Enforcing gun laws and investing in research on stopping gun violence; and Investing in mental health services. The first solution, fortifying schools, is unlikely to be effective not simply because it is costly; a determined shooter could surveil and disarm the guards or defeat the metal detectors or other devices. Limiting media coverage might be more effective. At the moment, media coverage of these tragedies is so relentless and invasive that it effectively glorifies the shooter. If the media refused to provide such coverage, or if it were prohibited from doing so, a potential shooter might be discouraged from committing mass murder/suicide because he would realize that he will not get the postmortem fame he craves. The difficulty would be in crafting a law that accomplishes this aim while not unduly infringing on the freedom of the press. The third possibility, repealing the gun-free zone laws, shows the most promise in deterring these horrible crimes, because potential shooters would not know who else might be carrying a gun. The most common objections to allowing licensed adults to carry firearms in schools is the fear that unless such a person is as highly trained as a policeman, he is likely to shoot indiscriminately at the shooter or over childrens heads, and cause even more terror than the original shooter has provoked. Body Paragraph 3: This objection shows both a lack of an ability to prioritize and a lack of understanding of how widespread responsible gun ownership is in the United States. While state laws differ about what constitutes adequate training, the vast majority of those who are licensed to carry do so responsibly. In considering the possibility of allowing concealed carry on our law school campus, one of my colleagues stated that she would never trust her safety to Professor X, an older professor widely known for his staunch support of the Second Amendment and other conservative causes. But if (God forbid) a disgruntled former law student entered the faculty suite hoping to shoot as many faculty members as possible, I would much rather trust to the ability of Professor X (or any other professor or student or even my own skill) to shoot him and not me than on my ability to run, hide in my locked office, or try to tackle the shooter. ost mass shooters are young men or occasionally womenusually teenswho are emotionally unstable and want to exact revenge on society for some harm that they have suffered commit suicide in a blaze of gunfire, and get national media attention for their last act. Their desire to commit suicide indicates that though such shooters may be deranged, they are cognizant of the likely consequences of their acts and are acting accordingly by choosing suicide. Three possible ways of doing this are to: fortify schools with Armed guards and metal detectors as in airports, limit media coverage of mass shootings so that potential shooters recognize that they wont become famous postmortem, or eliminate the gun-free zones and allow licensed parents, teachers, administrators, and adult students to carry their guns into school. Body Paragraph 4: Senetence 1: The first solution, fortifying schools, is unlikely to be effective not simply because it is costly a determined shooter could surveil and disarm the guards or defeat the metal detectors or other devices. Limiting media coverage might be more effective. At the moment, media coverage of these tragedies is so relentless and invasive that it effectively glorifies the shooter. If the media refused to provide such coverage, or if it were prohibited from doing so, a potential shooter might be discouraged from committing mass murder/suicide because he would realize that he will not get the post mortem fame he craves. The difficulty would be in crafting a law that accomplishes this aim while not unduly infringing on the freedom of the press. The third possibility, repealing the gun-free zone laws, shows the most promise in deterring these horrible crimes, because potential shooters would not know who else might be carrying a gun. Conclusion: It cannot be overemphasized that concealed carry has reduced violent crime every time it has been passed and is therefore most likely to reduce the incidence of mass shootings in schools. This could help save Students and teachers lives. Source Citation  (MLA 8th Edition) Nedzel, Nadia E. Concealed carry: the only way to discourage mass school shootings. Honesty :: essays research papers

Essay on Honesty   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  You pull up to the second window at the McDonalds’s drive-through to pick up the shake you just ordered and paid for, and the person working there hands you a huge bag of food while asking you if this is what you ordered. Do you A: Answer â€Å"Yes† and take the food or B: Answer â€Å"No† and tell him/her that you only paid for a shake? Yes this really did happen to me. What did I do? Believe it or not, I did the honest thing and gave the food back. But the real question is what would a majority of American’s youth do in a similar situation. There are two potentially dishonest acts in this situation, lying and stealing. In my opinion most high school kids are not above lying and/or stealing. The reason this is true is simply that many of today’s parents are not above lying and/or stealing. So after observing people that hold a high place of respect do things unmoral like this, their conscience says to itself, â€Å"Okay, lying and/or stealing is not really that bad, and is acceptable to my parents.† A majority of Americans youth today are morally confused, due to the un-honorable actions of their parents.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  1984, by George Orwell, shows an example of un-honorable actions of parents, rubbing off on their children. About 99% of the population in this book, were uncaring robots. They would turn their best friend into the â€Å"thought police† at the drop of a hat. They don’t think for themselves, and therefore are robots. The children of 1984, were even worse because they would turn their own parents into the â€Å"thought police†, with no sense of shame, and they actually felt proud about their actions. This is a perfect example of the unmoral actions of the parents rubbing off on their children. This could be the fate of our country if we don’t take parenting more seriously. If this pattern continues on it’s current course, we will have a society with no boundaries to govern life.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  What can we do to remedy, you ask? Well we can start by thinking about what we do before we do it and putting ourselves into the other person’s shoes. How would you feel if you are working at McDonalds and you make this huge bag of food and give it to the wrong car. Then the next car pulls up waiting for its food and you realize what happened, so you explain it to the person and rush to make some more food.

Brief History of Istanbul Essay

Evidences obtained from archaeological remains indicate that people began to inhabit the proximities of contemporary Istanbul for approximately thousands of years ago. At about 5000 B. C. , a thick and sprawling population of individuals inhabited the fertile grounds of Istanbul. The Greek people all the way from Megara and Miletus started to rest upon the soils situated along the coasts of the Black Sea as well as the Bosporus back in the latter years of eight century B. C. The year 660 B. C. witnessed the colonization of Byzantium by Byzas, the founder of the colony whose origins trace to Megarian roots. As expected, the name of the colony was patterned after his name. Due to the strategic location of Byzantium, it easily gained dominance over the region in terms of economy which eventually led to the attention of numerous would-be conquerors. Along the path of the Golden Horn, Byzantium was founded which bestowed it with the most suitable harbour all-over the region. The agricultural prosperity of Byzantium can be largely attributed to the abundance of fish as well as the surrounding countryside which was fertile enough to support plants for agriculture. Next to Byzantium, a safe harbour was efficiently provided for by the inlet of the Golden Horn which was near Bosporus. This area was considered as a major maritime route back in those times as it linked the Mediterranean Sea to the Black Sea. Byzantium eventually found itself struggling amidst the powers trying to conquer and dominate over the city—Persians, Greeks, Spartans and Athenians all drew their swords and took away lives for the sake of taking the city under their control. Such was the major importance of Byzantium during those times where its prosperity was seemingly beyond imagination. Even the Gauls attacked the city during the third century and in 202 B. C. the city sought the help and protection from Rome after being taken over by Macedonians. Eventually, the city was absorbed as a vital part of the Roman empire back in 73 B. C. During 196 A. D. , the city was caught on the wrong side after the creation of a power struggle in the Roman empire. As economically powerful as Byzantium may seem, it was not able to respond and resist the struggle which eventually trickled down the capabilities of the cities as it paid dearly. A large number of the residents were murdered as well as a significant portion of Byzantium was obliterated through the leadership of the Roman emperor Septimus Severus. Apparently, the Rman emperor had to rebuild the entire city starting off with the ruins as the wake of the power struggle. In the process, Byzantium was able to manage itself and continue to progress amidst threats and occurrences of civil wars as well as rebellions which smothered all-over the Roman empire through the many years to follow. However, Constantine I routed his foe, emperor Licinius, on September 18, 324. Constantine I was able to unify the broad territory of the Roman empire and made it follow his leadership. The Roman empire eventually made Byzantium as the prime capital of the region which extended to as far as three continents. Byzantium eventually gained a new name—Constantinople—after being briefly known as the New Rome named in honor of Constantine who was the first Roman ruler to embrace the doctrines of Christianity. During its time, Constantinople gained much reputation and wealth making it one of the world’s most economically advanced cities. The city was almost untouchable in status, having the power to dictate the doctrines of the Christian religion and to amass huge amounts of wealth up until the eleventh century. As the meeting points between the East and the West became largely attributed to Constantinople, it was no surprise that all roads were now focused on the wealthy city of Constantine. In 395 A. D. the whole of the Roman Empire was divided into the West and the East especially after the death of Theodosius. The Eastern Roman Empire adopted Constantinople as its central city or capital which was later referred to as the Byzantine Empire as a reminder of its brilliant past. Through the course of time, Constantinople further advanced as the core of the Greek Orthodox Christian realm. With its immense financial resources, the wealth of the Byzantine Empire gave it the capacity to transform Constantinople as a beautiful city far beyond compare. The splendour and majesty of Constantinople is perhaps owed to the well-paid architects who designed majestic churches and splendid palaces as well as artists and sculptors also contributed a large fraction of the city’s aesthetic transformation. One notable structure ever to be erected is the hippodrome which could hold more than a hundred thousand spectators. Eventually, the walls of the city were further built into a seemingly impenetrable protective layer as threats of invasion from rivalling forces never dwindled. Almost half million citizens inhabited Constantinople under the rule of Emperor Justinian from 527 to 565 A.  D. The Emperor took full control of the creation of some of Constantinople’s most majestic buildings which include the Haghia Sophia, one of the largest churches during the height of the prosperity of Constantinople. The Byzantine empire’s capital reached its full blom under the helm of Emperor Justinian. Even though Constantinople continued to supplement its wealthy advancement with protective measures, enemies from the outside were inevitably attracted to the splendour of the city. A few years after, the city was devastated with a plague in 542 A. D. which claimed the lives of three of every five citizens. This, unfortunately, brought the beginning of the city’s fall. As the city weakened in terms of its population both in size and strength, the enemies of Constantinople took the opportunity to besiege the city. Apparently, the enemies were unable to successfully conquer the city as the walls of Constantinople proved impenetrable. Attacks on the city mounted between the seventh and eleventh century A. D. which include forces from Persian Sassanids, Bulgars, Avars, Russians, and Muslim Arabs. At the time of the Fourth Crusade, the Latins were able to break the walls of Constantinople and captured the capital of the Byzantine Empire in 1204 A.  D until 1261 less than a century of captivity when the Byzantine forces reclaimed the capital. At the height of captivity, however, Constantinople was greatly diminished in terms of wealth and infrastructure as the invading forces plundered precious jewels and any other item they deemed were of sufficient value. The entire population diminished to half a hundred thousand during that time, and the citizens suffered greatly from famine. In 1396, the Ottoman Turks captured Constantinople and built a fort on the Asian side of the Bosporus Sea in order to hinder aid from reaching the city. However, the capital would not fall for a few more years. On the 29th day of May, the Ottoman leader Mehmed was able to tear down the city walls and penetrate the city which ultimately signalled the fall of the era of Constantinople’s Christian church and the commencement of Muslim rule over the land. Apparently, the Muslims transformed the Haghia Sophia into a Muslim temple. In 1457, the capital of the Byzantine Empire was already known as Istanbul which later became the central point of the Ottoman Empire. Mehmed began to repopulate the city after the siege and within a few years time, Istanbul gained a considerable increase in population, roughly amounting to approximately 50,000 inhabitants. Ottoman Istanbul was able to achieve its peak during the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent, and perhaps the most notable buildings ever to be erected during those times, roughly amounting to 300 buildings, were the creations of chief architect Sinan. These efforts to restructure Ottoman Istanbul were significant as it signalled the dawning of a new Istanbul, one which is uniquely Ottoman in identity. Throughout time, Ottoman Istanbul opened its doors to the outside world in order to obtain a harmonious relationship with the other cities and states. This resulted to the expansion of the city’s population, now having a mixture of different races such as Jews, Christians, Armenians and other citizens. Influence on Ottoman Istanbul rule was apparently being influenced by many different forces from these races. Eventually, Istanbul became influenced with the modernization of the world. Europeans began to build a railroad system which connects the whole continent with Istanbul by the 1870s. As a result, the Ottoman empire became placed under the debt of European powers. These would later result to power struggles from within the empire, complicated all the more by the struggling influences from the Europeans to whom they were indebted with. In consequence, these developments in the Ottoman empire especially in Istanbul uring the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries would signal the downfall of the Ottoman empire and would mark the commencement of the Turkish Republic. Today, Istanbul remains as a fervent reminder of how a city once so powerful became so absorbed into the desire for power which led to its own subjugation and diminishment of power in the following years.

Picking the Right Security Certification

As the world gets more connected, it also gets less safe. And as more and more information is exchanged via email and websites, and more folks buy stuff online, more data and money is at risk than ever before. That’s why those with technical certifications in security are becoming more and more in demand. But there is a lot to choose from; which one might be right for you? We’ll give an overview of the most popular, and in-demand, security certifications you can get. For this article, we’re going to look at vendor-neutral certifications, which means specialized credentials from security companies like CheckPoint, RSA, and Cisco won’t be included. These certifications teach general security principals  and will have the widest range of usability. CISSP The CISSP, from the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, known as (ISC)2, is generally considered the hardest security title to get, and the most well-regarded as well. How hard is it? You’re not even eligible unless you have five years of security-specific experience. It also requires an endorsement by someone who can attest to your experience and qualifications. Even if you pass the exam, you may still be audited. That means (ISC)2 can investigate and make sure you have the experience you claim to have. And after that, you need to recertify every three years. Is it worth it? Most CISSPs would tell you yes  because the CISSP certification is the name hiring managers and others know. It verifies your expertise. As security expert Donald C. Donzal of The Ethical Hacker Network says, many consider the CISSP â€Å"the gold standard of security credentials.† SSCP The baby brother of the CISSP is the Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP), also by (ISC)2. Like the CISSP, it requires passing an exam, and has the same rigorous checks in place, like needing an endorsement and the possibility of being audited. The main difference is your knowledge base is expected to be smaller, and you only need one year of security experience. The test is much easier, as well. Still, the SSCP is a solid first step into your security career  and is backed by (ISC)2. GIAC The other major vendor-neutral certification organization is the SANS Institute, which oversees the Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) program. GIAC is SANS’ certification arm. The GIAC has multiple levels. The first is the Silver certification, which requires passing a single exam. It has no real-world component, making it of dubious value in the eyes of potential employers. All you really need to do is be able to memorize the material. Above that is Gold certification. This requires writing a technical paper in your area of expertise in addition to passing a test. This adds significantly to the value; the paper will demonstrate an individual’s knowledge of a subject; you can’t fake your way through a technical paper. Finally, the Platinum certification is at the top of the heap. It requires a proctored, two-day lab practical after achieving Gold certification. It’s given only at certain times of year  during a SANS conference. This could be a stumbling block to some certification-seekers, who may not have the time or money to fly to another city to take a lab test over a weekend. If, however, you make it through that process, you’ve proven your skills as a security expert. Although not as well known as the CISSP, a GIAC Platinum credential is certainly impressive. Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) CISM is administered by the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA). ISACA is more well known for its CISA certification for IT auditors, but CISM is making a name for itself as well. The CISM has the same experience requirement as the CISSP – five years of security work. Also, like the CISSP, one test must be passed. A difference between the two is that you need to do some continuing education every year. The CISM appears to be as rigorous as the CISSP, and some security pros think it is actually more difficult to get. The reality, though, is that it is still not as well known as the CISSP. That should be expected, however, given that it didn’t exist until 2003. CompTIA Security+ On the lower end of security certifications, CompTIA offers the Security exam. It consists of one 90-minute exam with 100 questions. There is no experience requirement, although CompTIA recommends two or more years of security experience. Security should be considered entry-level only. With no required experience component and a simple, short test, its value is limited. It might open a door for you, but only a crack.
